5/13/2023 0 Comments Chloe hooper the arsonistA gripping true-crime chronicle in which the justice is both righteous and agonizing." - Kirkus Reviews (starred review) "Consistently riveting and never fuzzy on the details, Hooper's book encompasses the specifics of the fire, its collateral damages, and the troubled mind behind the mayhem. The command of fire has defined and sustained us as a species-understanding its abuse will shape our future.Ī powerful true-crime thriller written with Hooper's trademark lyric detail and nuance, The Arsonist is a reminder that in an age of fire, all of us are gatekeepers. This book is also the story of fire in Australia, and of a community that owed its existence to that very element. The Arsonist takes readers on the hunt for this man, and inside the strange puzzle of his mind. But the detectives soon found themselves on the trail of a man they didn't know. In the Valley, where the rates of crime were the highest in the state, more than thirty people were known to the police as firebugs. On the scorching February day in 2009 that became known as Black Saturday, a man lit two fires in Victoria's Latrobe Valley, then sat on the roof of his house to watch the inferno. What kind of person would deliberately start a firestorm? What kind of mind? The true story of the most devastating wildfire in Australian history and the search for the man who started it.

Unlike many authors whose work on a film or TV project ends the moment they sell the rights to their work, Macy played a key role in the selection of some of the cast members who would portray the characters in her book, as well as making sure it was filmed in Virginia. “I hope Americans will understand how we got here and then that will ripple out into systemic change, and better policies and better treatment for people with opioid use disorder.” We stigmatize the people who are addicted to opioids, rather than the companies and the regulators that let it happen,” Macy told TheWrap, noting that Fox21 series developer Warren Littlefield promised her they would “shine the klieg light” on the issue. As a writer and producer on Hulu’s new show, “Dopesick,” based on her 2018 book of the same name, she hopes the adaptation will carry a message to Americans about opioid use disorder. As a journalist at Virginia’s Roanoke Times, Beth Macy saw the devastation of America’s opioid overdose epidemic - and reported on it - long before it hit the national news. 5/12/2023 0 Comments Interior of chinatownThe book ends with a quote lifted from an external source reporting on the consequences of the fires which broke out across the city of San Francisco in response to the devastating earthquake of 1906. You lay it on a little thicker with the accent, break up your grammar a bit more." In this metaphorical use of the idiom "lay it on thick," Turner suggests that Wu overemphasizes his accent, as though he is hiding behind a facade like a thick layer of icing covers a cake or plaster covers a wall. When Turner reprimands Wu for playing a stereotype, claiming that he makes himself generic as a form of protection, he says, "Keep yourself inside this costume, this role. While Older Brother is mythical, Bruce Lee is legendary, "a living, breathing video game boss-level." In this metaphor, Yu emphasizes Bruce Lee's inhuman prominence as a fighter and unattainable status as a movie star by likening him to the boss level of a video game. When describing Wu's older brother, the narrator compares his status to that of the Chinese action hero Bruce Lee. One at his side, one at his control, one unaware of the limitations of its position. And hadn’t he placed the pieces so very carefully across the board? A knight. Chess spread across oceans and continents. He now ruled a large piece of the Continent, and intended to have the rest of it soon enough. And whoever held the most magic held the most power. Whoever held the most land held the most magic. Gerard didn’t care how it came into being, or what name was given to it. Some gave it an origin, said it was the fingerprint of the gods, the remnants of their physical touch upon the world. Some gave the lines a name: ley, aetheric, telluric. Magic buried inside stone and water and grassy plain, currents of power that feathered through the world like veins of gold through marble that could be felt by those who were Aligned to it. War was the tool that brought him control, power, people, territory. To be victorious, and to pull that victory from the bloody grasp of defeat. To place his mark upon a battlefield, upon those who served him. He didn’t love war, but he loved to command. Knew the beat of soldiers’ footsteps, the whinny of battle-tested horses, the look in the eye of a man who understood victory-or defeat-was already guaranteed. Gerard Rousseau, emperor of Gallia, knew its rhythm well. 5/12/2023 0 Comments The crimson crown seriesHis only ally is the queen, and despite the perils involved, Han finds it impossible to ignore his feelings for Raisa. It takes more than a shaky cam to create a good fighting scenery. I thought they are disappointing at best, especially for a film that wants to be epic. Speaking about that, the fighting scenes were filmed and cut so poorly that it was a pain to watch. As a part of narration, a stylistic element, not as a substitute of narration, which I call lazy and bad filmmaking. A Narrating voice from the off should be used sparely and mostly to give interesting information or meaningful insight. At least 10 times (and I am not exaggerating) there is some guy mumbling about "Krabat doing this, Krabat doing that." Sometimes stuff that could have been easily displayed in some scenery, for example "Krabat is hardworking, others are lazy.this guy right here, he is very strict" Fine shut up already and just show it. I have never seen a movie with such an overuse of voice-off. 5/11/2023 0 Comments Martin luther king birmingham jailThis, and his use of appeals made his letter all the more credible. Nevertheless, he was also a reverend, who was very patient, and well versed in the philosophy and execution of civil disobedience. His perspective was that of a disappointed, black man in America, who had been subjected to all sorts of racial discrimination and segregation through the span of his life. King was in Birmingham Jail when he composed this response. King made use of ethos, pathos, and logos in his letter three powerful rhetorical devices that make various appeals to the target audience. His famous “Letter from Birmingham” offered a detailed response to the white moderate of his time, rebutting their claims that the direct actions of King’s cause, were “untimely” and “unwise”.
